We were lucky to have a friend from high school come visit us over the weekend. Her and her daughter were seeing a play in Charlotte so they spent an evening with us. That always means German food and a little high school get together. The kids bonded immediately! It was great to see Sunday and the Slovaceks!

Spartan Race 2013
Our second event for the day was the Spartan Race. Both kids and parents were racing-the Wagner and King clan! The kids loved the numbers being written on their forehead (easy identification in pictures). It was a chilly day still so everyone tried to stay warm as long as they could.

Before the kids race...they did a half mile with obstacles and mud.
Love Declan's finishing spirit!
And now the adults turn...a nice picture of them clean
You can see the group coming over the wall in the upper right corner.

The SPARTANS!
It was a great day of accomplishments. We really appreciate the Spartan Race supporting Homes for our Troops.
Created for Care
I am lucky enough to head out each year to Created for Care, a weekend retreat for adoptive moms. We attend classes, eat lots, talk lots, sing, go to hear speakers, have worship sessions, shop at organizations that are changing the world....we are busy. My friend Jill and I were excited to see our 2 stars in a poster for one of the groups!
I managed to snag a bag of Ethiopian coffee for Rich. We brought home pounds and pounds of this coffee from Ethiopia. Only takes the little things to make him happy!
Proof
As some of you know, we are a little crunchy here at the King house. We like eco friendly items, buy organic, get our meat from a farm, clean with vinegar, it goes on. We also use cloth napkins and use no paper towels (that works well until people stay at your house while you are out of town and they arrive to a giant ant infestation and have to spray ant killer everywhere and have no paper towels to clean it with, another time maybe!).
Terefech had to write an opinion piece and this was her writing. Her teacher was so impressed. We then discussed that she had changed the world. The assistant in her class had switched to cloth napkins because of her. It took her awhile to understand the domino effect. One person changes, then another, then another.
Proof that we can all make a difference.
Declan's Art Crawl
Declan's class had an art crawl. They had all their artwork displayed on display boards and you could go around and ask them about artists, their artwork, their inspirations.

Thinking this is their Freida Kahlo mural
Self Portrait
Another Frieda Kahlo inspiration. She used metal in her artwork thus the shiny background.
Lately my favorite part of these programs is to see the kids he has been with for the last 3 years. There are 4 of them who have been in the same class since kindergarten. Next year they will most likely part ways...I love having these 4 grow physically and academically. What a treat to be part of their lives...
Hair day
Terefech finally agreed to have a good old hair day. We tried stretching her hair with bands this time. We love the in between hair styles!
The next day we did some double strand twists. My technique is not the best but it works for the most part. And we made it through without any break downs...by me, she is fine.
