Last day in D.C. all mixed up

Our last day in D.C. was spent at the Jefferson Memorial and the surrounding memorials.  I am a big fan of Martin Luther King Jr. so that memorial had been on my list of things we should do.  Our visit to that one wasn't all I wanted it to be as there were a lot of school kids being loud.  It was at that point that I realized why there are signs at most memorials saying to be quiet and respectful.  The memorials are incredible place to reflect upon the people they represent as well as our country as a whole.  They are generate so many conversations between the kids and us.  I am always in awe when I read the words all of these men have spoken over the years.

One of the things on our list was to paddleboat in the tidal basin...it was soooo hot.  You will notice not really anyone else out there.  We made it half of our allotted time before we called it!

 Always love riding the metro!
Declan had on his list seeing the front side of the White House.

We liked that it warned us that "Fast pedaling can cause rapid tiring of legs."  Who knew?

Charlotte's mayor, Anthony Foxx, had just been sworn in as the Dept. of Transportation secretary.  Declan yelled out, "Hi, Mayor Foxx!" as we drove by.

 For my friend Steve...

The kids loved the mural outside of Union Station called Hopscotch Bridge.
