NASA Glenn Research Center

We hit the NASA Glenn Research Center this past Saturday.  Originally we were supposed to tour the Drop Zone.  It is the anti gravity facility at Glenn but apparently it was contaminated and they were having a difficult time uncontaminating it.  So we went to see the Supersonic Wind Tunnel.  And unfortuantely for us, there was an engine or something else being tested and in the tunnel.  So, we couldn't see inside the tunnel.  We did learn all about it and Declan was super thrilled to be inside NASA.
The inlet for an engine.

A model of how the Supersonic Wind Tunnel works.  It can go up to mach 3.5.  The actual testing section has bendable walls of 1 and 3/8 of an inch thick metal.  It was built in the 50s so none of it is computerized.  It is all done with hydraulic jacks.
